Shame & Avoidance

from $1,350.00

This two-part series explores the inner and outer experience of shame and social anxiety. Shame depicts the inner experience of being seen that can trigger feelings of danger: being exposed or judged as fundamentally wrong. Avoidance captures the outer experience of wanting connection yet fearing it, a nervous system caught between longing and defense.

Available individually or as a pair.

Artist Note

These paintings came from working through my fearful-avoidant attachment style and learning to see my anxiety not as brokenness, but as a normal response to abnormal circumstances.

In therapy, I began to understand what Dr. Peter Levine means when he says, trauma is not a life sentence.” Painting these experiences helped me further bring them out of the shadows and into awareness, where they could soften, integrate, and lose their charge.

This work is a reminder that what once felt unbearable can transform into understanding and resilience, when we have the courage to face it with compassion.
